Comprehensive validation of 3D protruding-rib geometry

Establish comprehensive validation of the 2D locally stiffened Mindlin–Reissner plate model against the reconstructed 3D protruding-rib solid representation, including comparisons of density-to-binary-to-STEP geometry, mass, volume fraction, and deformation fields.

Background

The optimization represents reinforced regions through a locally stiffened Mindlin–Reissner plate model, whereas the post-processing pipeline exports a base plate with protruding ribs. The paper reconstructs the optimized density fields as 3D solids and finds that the 2D and 3D compliance rankings are positively correlated across the tested domains, with Pearson correlations of 0.92, 0.82, and 0.98 for the rectangular, circular, and central-hole domains, respectively.

Although this re-analysis supports the comparative usefulness of the 2D model, it does not fully validate the correspondence between the modeled stiffened plate and the exported rib geometry. A more comprehensive validation remains unresolved and would require comparing the complete density-to-binary-to-STEP conversion against the 3D solid representation, including mass, volume fraction, and deformation fields.

A full density--binary--STEP comparison including mass, volume fraction, and deformation fields would provide more comprehensive validation and remains future work.
