Automatic selection of the global search box

Determine an automatic method for choosing the global search box for Bayesian Optimisation by Local Deformation, rather than relying on a user-specified clipping range.

Background

The Bayesian Optimisation by Local Deformation search region is an adaptively sized trust region centred on the incumbent and may optionally be clipped to a global box. The global box controls how far optimisation can move from the training examples, but its size is problem-dependent and can substantially affect the designs that are reachable.

The paper reports sensitivity to the choice of box size and explicitly identifies automatic selection of the global box as unresolved future work.

References

Constraints that guarantee injectivity, and ways of choosing the global box automatically, are left for future work.
