Asymptotic behavior and gradient dynamics of the regularized reaction model

Characterize the asymptotic behavior of the regularized reaction functional and its global maximizers as the regularization parameter tends to zero, and analyze the associated gradient dynamics.

Background

The paper introduces the regularized reaction functional J^\hat{J}, which augments the original reaction output with an entropic term and a gradient-square penalty for the catalyst concentration. The positive regularization parameter limits the unlimited spatial localization responsible for the non-existence of maximizers of the unregularized functional, and the paper proves existence of a global maximizer for every fixed positive parameter.

The limiting regime in which the regularization parameter decreases to zero is not analyzed. In particular, it remains to determine how the regularized functional and its maximizers behave in this singular limit, including whether they recover the localization and concentration phenomena established for maximizing sequences of the unregularized problem. The authors also leave analysis of the gradient-ascent dynamics associated with the regularized model for future work.

We will address further questions about the new model, such as the asymptotic behavior of the functional and its maximizers as $ \searrow 0$, as well as the gradient dynamics, in future work.
