Characterize degeneracies and identify alternative jet-model solutions

Characterize the parameter degeneracies of the evolving leptonic jet model for TXS 0506+056 and determine whether alternative parameter configurations can reproduce the multi-wavelength gamma-ray and radio data with comparable detail.

Background

The model fitting uses a local Markov chain Monte Carlo search initialized from a by-eye fit and explores only a restricted neighborhood of a single high-likelihood solution. Because the time-dependent radiative calculations are computationally expensive, the sampled parameter region is not intended to provide a globally representative posterior.

Consequently, the reported best-fit configuration may not be unique. The authors explicitly identify the study of parameter degeneracies and the search for other solutions with comparable agreement to the time-domain data as unresolved work.

References

While the best-fit result describes well the data, we cannot easily exclude other solutions owing to this limitation. We encourage other works to study further these degeneracies and potentially find new solutions that describe the data at an equal level of detail in the time domain.
