Shoemaker-Levy 9 Impact Scars
“Above Jupiter's southern hemisphere in July 1994 just after the Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacts. A string of dark brown impact scars stretches across the cloud tops at southern mid-latitudes each the size of Earth, plumes still rising thousands of kilometers above the limb, the Great Red Spot churns in the distance, and Io transits above.”
