The M87 Black Hole Shadow
“The supermassive black hole at the heart of M87. The 6.5 billion solar mass black hole's shadow appears as a dark central region surrounded by a brilliant orange ring of light from the gravitationally lensed accretion disk, the relativistic jet shoots away perpendicular to the disk, the host galaxy M87 stretches in elliptical glow around, and the event horizon is the largest one we have imaged.”
