The Whirlpool Galaxy
“Hovering above the face-on Whirlpool Galaxy M51. The grand-design spiral arms sweep in elegant blue-white curves with pink HII regions sprinkled along them, the small companion galaxy NGC 5195 interacts at one arm tip, dark dust lanes trace the spiral structure, and the central bulge glows golden from older stars.”
