Walls of Babylon
“The processional way of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar II's reign, c. 580 BCE. Glazed brick lions stride along walls flanking a parade for Marduk. Foreground shows priests in conical hats carrying Marduk's statue on a barge; midground reveals chariots, cymbals, and women throwing dates; the Etemenanki ziggurat rises above palm groves where the Euphrates winds through the world's greatest city.”
