Inauguration of the U.S. Capitol
“Capitol Hill, Washington City, September 18, 1793. President Washington in Masonic apron lays the cornerstone of the new Capitol. Foreground shows Washington with a silver trowel and a marble cornerstone bearing a plaque; midground reveals officials in tricorns and members of brotherly Masonic lodges; a half-cleared landscape of stumps and the unfinished President's House rise behind.”
