Explain photosynthesis in one word
GPT-3.5
GPT-6 Astra
Photoconversion.
What changed
The request had one rule, and only Astra obeyed it. GPT-3.5 gave a full textbook sentence about plants, algae and bacteria turning sunlight into “glucose and other sugars,” then tacked on its one word at the end: “conversion.” Astra simply answered “Photoconversion.” and stopped.
GPT-3.5’s detour isn’t worthless. Its definition is accurate, and someone who doesn’t already know what photosynthesis is learns more from it. But the person asked for a single word, and that word was the point. “Conversion” is also too vague to say much on its own, since it could just as easily describe currency exchange or a touchdown. Astra’s compound packs the light and the transformation into one term. It does feel slightly sneaky, since it reuses the “photo” from the original word. Still, that is a clever way to squeeze more meaning into a single word, and it is exactly what a one-word challenge invites.
